It was okay.
I don't want to totally hate on the house and area because it is beautiful, but I would not rent this house again.
Pros - the house is spacious and has multiple washers and dryers. You can bring dogs!
Cons - only three cars in the driveway, I was told this was an HOA rule but we were constantly moving cars.
-the house is HOT. Thermostats were set at 78F and locked down. I contacted the owner on how to access the boxes and (four hours later) was told his electric bill is already too high. What??? For this reason alone, I would never rent this house again. The details of the home rental give check out instructions on cranking the thermostats to 85F. Please remove this because it insinuates that the home temperature is adjustable.
- unless you're a cliff member, you can't use the amenities listed for the property. Maybe this was in fine print but not on the original listening on Home Away. No tennis, no pool. So, we traveled to Table Rock and Jocassee. And every time we traveled, we had to retrieve cars from overflow.
- The dishwasher didn't drain and one of the showers didn't work. He did contact us regarding these matters. But, ideally these matters would have handled prior to our check in. There was no resolution to these issues other than, keep using the dishwasher.
Under Property description on VRBO it states under PARKING "Only 3 cars allowed on property unless for loading & unloading. Additional parking available less than 1000 ft away. Parking map will be provided" A parking map was included in the arrival instructions to the renter.
Under AIR CONDITIONING it states " One A/C central unit on each of the 3 floors set for 77 degrees in June, July, Aug, & Sept. If you want to be able to adjust each thermostat, then a $300 deposit must be given for daily overage"
The power company ( Duke Energy) recommends a setting of 78 degrees and I SET IT FOR 77 DEGREES. THIS HOUSE WAS DESIGNED WITH A SPECIAL INSULLATION OF CELLULOSE FOR THIS EXACT REASON, TO HOLD IN THE WARMTH OR HOLD IN THE COLD. This was also stated in the arrival instructions.
The dishwasher was still working fine , but had some standing water that was a result of broken glass and excessive food in the drain hose which we found after the renter had left. There was also a 2nd dishwasher in the house.
The Shower worked fine. They said the pull knob on the shower would not stay up before they turned the water on. They were trying to make it stay up before they turned on the water. When you did it the right way as all of these showers work in homes, it worked fine.
In a house of this size, renters will put the A/C in the 60's with no regard to the bill. I gave them the opportunity before as well as when they arrived to pay a deposit and I would remove the thermostat covers
Great House! My husband and I rented it with his brother and wife and with our children and grandchild, it made a group of 10. Everyone had their own space with all the bedrooms and baths in this house. We could all sit and eat together in the main level. Loved the concept of the two houses in one. Owner was wonderful to work with. He always replied to emails quick or you could reach him by phone anytime. You also get to bring your fur babies with you. We would definitely stay here again.
For several years our family has spent Thanksgiving week at lake houses on Keowee or Hartwell. All 16 of us agreed this house was the best house yet for our family holiday. The house and the surroundings are so peaceful and relaxing. Great place for getting away and enjoying quality family time together.
Graduation and wedding weekend
The home is very roomy, and the beds in the six bedrooms were very comfortable. It was nice a quiet and the screened in porch was a great place to gather, visit and play games.
Kitchen ware was substandard for a vacation rental - no lids for the skillets, and some items should be replaced. The linen in some of the bathrooms should also be replaced. Some were worn and stained. This didn't keep us from having a good time at the house, but we did have to make a 30 minute one-way trip (60 minutes) round trip to Pickens to pick up more toilet paper as there was only one roll per bathroom and with 10 people at any one point at the house, that was unacceptable. Also had to buy batteries to set the temperature, because the thermostat controls were not responding.
It wouldn't hurt to have a professional cleaning crew come in at the beginning of the rental season, or even twice a year to clean the windows, carpeting and ovens.
The owner was always very helpful and answered all emails quickly and called us to say we could stay as long as needed our last day since they didn't have renters coming in that day.
The property is a 45 minute drive one way to Clemson University, and as stated earlier, 30 minutes one way to the nearest grocery store.
We were not able to take advantage of the amenities, such as eating in the restaurant on the property, golfing, etc., that the subdivision had to offer as we were busy with graduation and a wedding in Clemson, but the owner was gracious in offering to call for us if we were so inclined.
In counting the three roll-a-ways, one queen pull-out, one queen bed and five king beds, the place sleeps a max of 17 unless people sleep on the leather sofas in both living rooms.
We had a great time at this house, we would definitely go back!
Nice House But Dirty!!!
Loved the house. Great floor plan for large family. The only problem was that the house was dirty. We had to clean for two days. The vacuum cleaner didn't work. Some of the sheets were dirty. There was a dirty bowl under a chair and the dining room table was about to fall down. The downstairs smelled like a litter box. We have tried to contact the owner on four different occasions and he has not responded.
