If you are looking for the perfect "get-away-from-it-all" location, this, is it! You will be in a rustic setting with plenty of hot water for washing up after a busy day exploring the thousand Islands, spending quality time around the campfire or simply admiring the enormous view from one of the many decks on all four sides of the cottage.
Fishing on these picturesque waters is world renowned and the mainland is a mere 8 to10 minutes away on either side if you decide to venture back into civilization.
Bring your own drinking water, or rough it by boiling your own.
Plenty of equipment in the kitchen - enough for as many people as you want to fit in the cottage. The King size bed in the main BR is new and comfortable. The "no curtains" special feature is awesome for star gazing should you happen to wake up in the middle of the night.
Great docking area for your boat, and Peck's Marina has a good assortment of boats if you need one.
The closest thing to civilization on the Island is the high speed internet and satellite TV - both optional of course if you are there to totally "unplug".
Thank you for your kind words. I am so glad that you enjoyed your stay!
Jeff the property manager was very helpful and quick to respond. The cabin could use a few improvements, but overall who spends all their time in the cabin anyways? Our dog loved being able to explore and play with the ducks without us worrying about where she was. The firepit was perfectly situated from the cabin - not too close, not too far; and there was plenty of water to jump off the end of the dock for a swim. While you're there, make sure to search for the geocache!!! Overall, a memorable, very relaxing trip.
I am glad that you and your dog had a wonderful time! We are working to improve the vintage cottage every year.
We loved the cottage and we had an amazing time!! Cottage was very clean although falling apart in very minor ways (ceiling is flaking, pull out couch’s mattress has sagged in the middle and extremely uncomfortable, some chairs are broken) but there were lots of extra linens and towels and to top it off Jeff and his daughter were so easy to talk to, so helpful, and just great people.
The only complaint that I have is that there were no railings where the island turns into a bluff (or drop off) and since you would just land on top of rocks at the bottom it could be very dangerous. That said, it was fine for us because we were all adults but I wouldn’t recommend the island to any friends with kids.
Peaceful, tranquil and relaxing setting
Very easy to coordinate and get to the island. Owner and property manager were very accommodating. The small cottage and island were the perfect setting for "getting away from it all" and just chilling out. The home is well equipped with everything you need for cooking, grilling, etc. Swimming was great, and even the one rainy day we had was enjoyable in this setting. Nighttime bugs (nats?) were a nuisance inside the cottage, but they weren't bothersome if we left the lights off. A bit more "sprucing up" of the cottage and property could make this place amazing, but it was a comfortable and enjoyable place for a few days or R&R.
Sorry about the nats. It's part of island living. We have the tightest screens on the cottage but after dark it is preferred to keep the lights off over the kitchen sink and in the bathroom to keep them from coming in. Otherwise you deal with wiping up a few dead invaders from the night before.
Perfect island getaway
We had a wonderful 4 day annual family reunion on O’Conor island. The location is perfect, close to supplies, marinas, many places to visit. Even with the high water, we managed to easily accommodate our boats(3) and enjoy a lot of fun both on and off the water. We checked out the antique boats in Clayton NY, Bolt Castle, and the even took the kids for tree-trekking in Mallorytown. The kids loved the grove and our nightly get together around the campfire. Fishing just off the island was amazing, landed a number of bass in the 3-5 LBS. The cottage has all the basics, it older but everything works, simpler, what cottaging should be. The decks around the house were perfect, there was a spot for everyone and being able to moved around throughout the day depending on where the sun was landing. Was a bonus. The views are exceptional, no matter where you looked there was something to look out at and relax. John and Jeff were perfect hosts. We really could not have asked for a better experience, a perfect private island cottage experience. The dogs loved having the run of the island. Looking forward to coming back next summer.
We are so glad that you had a wonderful time. See you next summer!
Island weekend to explore Thousand Islands
Rustic but functional two bedroom cottage perfect for two adults and two kids. Stunning views and heavenly breeze from your very own island. Although docks flooded from the high waters this year, we were still able to dock our boat safely. Birds seem to have taken over the boat house so we opted not to use.
Our two dogs loved exploring freely with no worries of traffic or neighbours nearby.
A relaxing base to explore the area by boat.
I am glad that you had a good time. Hopefully the river levels will go down.
