Everybody loved the property, got so many compliments about how beautiful it was, my mom got to a family of bears for the first time, it was so convenient to have the girls get ready in one place and the guys in another! Our wedding weekend was everything we could have dreams of and way more!!!
Absolutely Beautiful Property
Our family had an amazing time at Pine Creek Farm. I took my wife, twin B/G 9 year olds and our two dogs for a few days of family "unplugged" time. The property is beautifully maintained and there is so much to explore that you will never see it all.
Fortunately the best stuff is right out side your door. I don't think the property description really does the place justice. The access to Pine Creek is amazing. You have to explore to find the paths leading down to the creek but it runs literally right behind the house and the more you wander, the more you discover.
The fire pit is the centerpiece of the property and likely where you will spend most evenings. Bring your s'more making ingredients (they have marshmallow skewers there). Wood on site makes it really convenient.
There is a great grill and a full kitchen so bring your favorite meals and cook on site. There is a market near by if you forget something but once you on property, there is really no reason to leave.
Depending on when you visit, there is so much to do including fishing, floating (bring a tube), swimming in the stream, early morning wildlife viewing (we saw bear and deer.Bring your binoculars if you have some but there is one pair on site), star gazing (bring a telescope if you have one), biking (they have bikes to rent), hiking and more.
Items to bring:
Binoculars & telescope
Water shoes with good traction. Smooth stones are slippery in stream.
Good bug spray. My wife mixed up some peppermint oil that worked
Headlamp for walking / hiking at night.
A good book
Overall, if you are looking for a place to get away from it all, Pine Creek Farm is a great escape. The property is unbelievable and the house is large enough to fit a couple of families if you have a large group outing. My only complaint would be that the beds are a bit uncomfortable.
Joe was a wonderful host and very accommodating. He was always just a text message or VRBO message away and always responded quickly. Pike Creek Farm was an amazing experience for our family and we hope to go back again.
...and we continue to work hard each year to improve all aspects of the property. A few replacement beds are on our list of improvements to come!
Sightseeing and flyfishing at the Octagon.
Nice sightseeing and plenty of things to do at and around the area of the Octagon at Gaines. Leonard Harrison state Park ( the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon ) just beautiful. Great views. Wellsboro and Galeton close by for shopping and eating. The flyfishing was fantastic right behind the cabin on Pine creek. Also caught perch, bream and largemouth bass in the pond. The cabin ,which is rather large, and secluded was beautiful with very nice views, accommodated our big family. Very wonderful and relaxing trip. Nice firepit also.We will go again.
Many of our renters are now repeat visitors, and they seem to have more fun each year--there is so much to see and do throughout the varied terrain and settings of our more than 500 acres of mountain trails and stream borders!
All 13 happy
Very lovely property. Something for everyone. From 9 years of age to 68 years. The big kids and little kids loved floating down the creek. Lots of places to pull over and jump and have fun. The game room was great. Loved the fire pit. And our unexpected visitor (a bear) who didn't come to close was really cool. Thank you for letting us stay at your little paradise.
We aim to please, but we can't take credit for the bear visit--they DO frequent the area and are stunning in their beauty and grace!
Definitely enjoyed our stay and had tons of fun in the creek. The house is very comfortable and clean with a unique design. Interior stairs would definitely be difficult for elderly and young children (outside stairs are available, however, a bit inconvenient in the rain). There are a few points of access to Pine Creek that are a bit hidden and could again be tricky for elderly or young children. We weren't able to make use of the pool table in the recreation building because it was just too hot. The building is equipped with heat but no air conditioning and even with the windows open all week, it never cooled off enough to be comfortable. It would have been nice to use on the few rainy days we had. Our only disappointment was that the property was not as secluded as we thought it would be. Noise from traffic was pretty constant (the house is steps away from the creek and a main road is on the other side of the creek) and there was a bit of activity on the property throughout our stay. The first 2 days a farmer was working in the fields just past the front lawn, other days the Amish were working in the barn area and on another 2 occasions people were visiting the barn and walking the grounds in preparation for a wedding. It felt a bit intrusive on our privacy while we sat on the deck or around the fire pit and they drove past on the driveway. While it may not have been the total disconnect from civilization we anticipated, we got to enjoy lots of wildlife including deer eating in the fields every morning and evening, bald eagles, osprey, salamanders, toads and even a black bear that casually walked past the house one morning on his way to the creek!! Overall, a very nice stay with plenty to do and explore.
We certainly appreciate and benefit from all renter feedback and do our best to make improvements in areas we can control. To clarify a few items, we offer the following:
While there are several points of access to Pine Creek along our 3/4ths-of-a-mile of creek frontage, this wild and pristine trout steam is also difficult to access in many areas--we think this is part of the beauty of a wild stream like this.
The cabin and game room have been acceptably without air conditioning since their construction nearly 35 years ago. Unfortunately this particular week was the hottest of the year so far. As times and needs have changed we just added A/C to the cabin last year and have plans to do the same to the detached game room in the near future.
Most renters say they feel far away and secluded from everything when on our 500+ acres of property. In mountainous areas and under certain weather conditions, sounds will echo and travel much farther and appear much closer than they really are. The main road across the creek is several hundred yards from Pine Creek and separated by undisturbed land. On occasion, traffic can be heard. On most trails across our vast property on the mountain, the only sounds that can be heard are the wildlife and winds in the trees!
The timing of this visit did coincidentally coincide with some farming activities which are necessary to maintain the rural agricultural beauty so many love to see. The Amish crew was working on some barn improvements, but the barn area is off-limits to all renters (weddings and events are hosted there) and is nearly a quarter of a mile away from the cabin.
The wedding couple visiting to make event plans misunderstood my instructions to avoid the main quarter-mile driveway to the cabin--we have a back service entrance to the barn not visible from the cabin that they failed to use, and we are truly sorry for that intrusion.
We will continue to take all comments to heart and make adjustments and improvements to provide the best possible experience for all our guests!
Great place to get away
My family and I always have a relaxing time here. We are away from it all, but still close to all the fun this area has to offer. Close to Wellsboro for food/shopping and hiking/kayaking in the PA Grand Canyon. The locals are super friendly and there is plenty of wildlife to see on the property. Hoping to move to the area in the next few years because we love it so much!
We always appreciate hearing from our repeat guests--each season offers a different variety of enjoyable outdoor activities!
