Property clean and average . Very disappointed on arrival as all the roads to the cottage were closed so had to park a fair distance from the property and then drag all our cases and dogs and ourselves up quite a steep hill . Once inside the cottage there were then steps to the kitchen and steps to the bathroom and approx 16 steep steps to the small patio. Also painted steps to the bedroom which were open and this made you feel a little insecure . Also one bathroom which was downstairs so you had to come down stairs in the middle of the night if you were to use the bathroom . None of this is was mentioned in the advert for the property if it had we would never have booked this type of property. For the dogs to do their business we had to come out of the cottage back down the hill across the main road and along the promenade . Not ideal. I contacted the owner when we first arrived to let him know all the roads were closed to the cottage and we had no way of getting to the property and asked to be refunded as this was totally unsuitable for our needs . He told me his cousin who lived near by would come to the bottom of the hill and give a hand but he didn’t show up . This was a birthday treat weekend that turned out to be miserable. I think all the above should be in the description so you can decide weather or not these inconveniences are for you . We had a seven hour journey to arrive to this . Not happy . I do expect some form of compensation for the awful time we had . The only thing dog friendly about the cottage is that the owner allowed dogs , once your at the cottage there is nothing convenient for the dogs . This really is a holiday for fit people (walkers) It’s a real shame as this was a big birthday that was spoilt .So we are now trying to reorganise another birthday treat that suits , so I really would appreciate some form of reimbursement. I await to hear from you
Half Term trip with dog
Cottage is cute, with everything as listed - great location to get to local beaches. Walking distance to local pubs, cafes and a few are dog friendly which was a bonus. We had to cut our trip short due to dog not sleeping well (first trip away!) but overall I would recommend. Thanks Alan!
Great cottage in a great location!
The cottage was lovely and included everything you need. A definite home from home. Perfect location for exploring the Gower and Mumbles itself. Plenty of eateries if you want them but also close to shops if you prefer to buy and eat in. The cottage was very clean and comfortable and access to the keys simple. The only downside is it would not be ideal if you have mobility issues as the hill is steep and the stairs in the cottage and up to the top garden could be an issue. Luckily not for us. The diagram showing how to get to the cottage to drop off our luggage was readily available once in the cottage, but would have been useful if sent before we arrived. The turn from the top of the road is very tight and not easy. Didn’t know there was an opportunity to turn round further on. Would have been easier coming to turn in right rather than left (hope this makes sense). However, could not fault the property and would definitely book again if coming to the area. Can recommend the Castellamare Restaurant at Bracelet Bay- good food, good portions, good value to money. And really friendly staff. If you’re thinking of booking this property, do. You won’t be disappointed.
Hmm, thanks for the restaurant tip compliments. Glad you liked it John. Not too sure what to do about the "directions and maps" bit because they are provided to all guests a couple of weeks before they check in. All guests except that is, for you and one other recent guest, whom I can see never got them. Aha; error! Perhaps too, they should not only be provided in a foolproof way but in a more obvious or explicit way, which I think could be achieved by making them an automated "push" download from the website at the time of booking instead of a subsequent email - so I will do that. But for any other readers who might need this sort of thing in the short term, the maps which John is referring to are included as photographs you can browse on the property's web-page on the HomeAway.co.uk website. I think they are photographs #5 and #6. It's true that you have to root around the website a bit to find this sort of stuff. Also, amongst the information which guests receive before arrival (currently by email, but this is what I think I should change), are directions to the property which include the turn-around area 10 yards beyond the junction and reference to it as an acute left-hander which it is sometimes best to avoid. That document is called "Directions to 16VL". Last thing is the ease of access for people with mobility issues. I couldn't agree more - it would be difficult, and impossible for some people. This information is also on the property's web-page in the section which HomeAway provides for it. But again, there may be a better way to make the information easier to find. I have written an "Access Statement" which like the directions and maps, could be provided as a "push" automated download from the website at the time of booking. "At the time of booking" means just BEFORE you pay at the online till! Ok thanks John, a few learning points there! Alan x
Nice cosy cottage.
Enjoyed the cottage and its location. My wife found it difficult to reach the bathroom from the bedroom in the night being partially disabled. We should have checked beforehand maybe.
2nd time staying here, and gets better every time!
This was my 2nd trip to the cottage, and I must say it has changed a little bit, and wow it’s even more amazing! The views from the top of the garden over the bay are beautiful, at night you can watch the sunset, very romantic. The weather was great, which was a bonus. Alan the cottage owner is very friendly and informative, you can always get answers to your questions. Myself, partner and French Bulldogs enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back again. Don't hesitate to book, you won’t be disappointed. A*
Well what a lovely review. I think you're lucky to have had good weather too, which always helps. Hi to the dogs xx
16 Village Lane was an amazing find and one we will definitely stay in again. Fab location and couldn't ask for anyone to be more helpful than the owner was. Highly recommended
Cheers for that. I'll send you more links like Gower Coast Adventures for your boy to have some extra fun next time. A
